As per the Ministry of Education in Dubai, UAE, the GEMS Modern Academy is known for its dedication to delivering education following the CISCE syllabus. GEMS Modern Academy operates on a day-boarding system, including morning academic sessions.
Kindergarten (PRE-KG TO KG 2)
The GEMS Modern Academy comprises Pre-Kindergarten and KG 2. The syllabus at GEMS Modern Academy is constructed thoughtfully, as per today's rapidly evolving world. The syllabus emphasises seven important learning areas to address the developmental needs of children between 3-5 years. These areas align closely with those specified in the EYFS framework and are taught through practices rooted in the Reggio Emilia Pedagogy and Montessori principles of child holistic development.
The syllabus employs play-based activities and other apt learning methodologies to enrich students' learning experiences. These activities aim to foster a spirit of teamwork and collaboration and to develop essential life-long social skills.
The school adheres to the Kindergarten Activities for Syllabus Enrichment (KACE) for the all-round development of its young learners. This programme embodies the principles of Discipline, Dedication, and Determination - collectively called the '3Ds'. It aims to seek and hone students' skills and provide a platform for them to showcase their abilities in a range of sports activities.
Primary School (GRADE 1st TO GRADE 5th)
In contrast to Kindergarten, the syllabus of primary classes at GEMS Modern Academy introduces the right combination of structured and learning approaches.
Unlike many other establishments, GEMS Modern Academy provides its primary pupils with a nurturing environment facilitated by warm-hearted and professional teachers skilled in catering to the needs of children aged between 5 to 10. The teaching faculty ensures each student receives personalised attention. For this, vibrant classrooms are created with an inviting atmosphere conducive to learning. An array of carefully planned events and activities adds zest to school life. The main subjects covered in the primary school syllabus include Science, Mathematics, Social Studies, English, Hindi and French, among other languages.
In Years 1 and 2, the GEMS Modern Academy employs an experiential learning style, while from Year 3 onwards, it adopts a concept-driven approach. The teachers at the academy manage the primary students in a manner that encourages the development of positive personality traits. From interpersonal to communicative skills, all are imparted in a secure and nurturing environment.
The particular framework empowers the academy to:
- Cultivate a global relevance for all pupils across all cultures.
- Furnish opportunities to investigate the human experience commonalities by students.
- Adapt and apply concepts from conventional subjects in ways that transcend subject boundaries.
- Revise and improve the syllabus throughout the schooling time.
- Put up to the shared syllabus foundations of all schools implementing the PYP model.
The PYP framework is based on six principal themes:
- Understanding our identities.
- Appreciating our place and role in the annals of time.
- Expressing ourselves creatively and diversely.
- Comprehending the workings of the world.
- Organising ourselves efficiently.
- Living as responsible inhabitants on Earth.
Middle School (GRADES 6th – 8th)
GEMS Modern Academy recognises the importance of nurturing self-identity among the pupils. Therefore, it adopts a well-rounded syllabus that centres on advancing academic capabilities and cultivating interpersonal skills crucial for students' social and personal growth.
The middle school syllabus at GEMS Modern Academy incorporates a wide spectrum of activities and club participation for students. The engagements aid students in identifying their areas of interest. At GEMS Modern Academy, supportive guidance is provided by the leadership team in every conceivable manner. Other initiatives towards comprehensive student development comprise the peer mentorship scheme.
Including a challenging project based on the syllabus fosters a sense of reasoning among the pupils, paving the way for a more profound comprehension of complicated subjects. As pupils progress to secondary school at GEMS Modern Academy, they encounter a slightly more intricate syllabus as science and social studies programs are split into subjects like Biology, Chemistry, Physics, History, Economics, and Civics. In addition to Arabic, English and Mathematics, world languages also become a mandatory component for secondary division students.
